“Fenicotteri rosa volar…”
Si si ok erano elefanti rosa e Dumbo di Tim Burton non sarà mai al livello del cartone. Ma non è questo il punto. Il punto è che vicino Oria c’è un posto magico dove volano i fenicotteri. E’ la Salina dei Monaci.
Siamo precisamente nella Riserva naturale regionale orientata di Torre Colimena.
Il luogo prende il nome da un episodio di natura storica. Intorno all’Anno Mille dei monaci hanno notato che l’acqua marina qui si depositava in una depressione naturale durante le mareggiate, così crearono un canale di scorrimento e la salina ebbe vita.
Luogo suggestivo e delicato. Un lembo di terra divide la salina dal mare cristallino e crea delle dune di sabbia fine. In base alla stagione i colori mutano e la vegetazione assume forme nuove.
Un’esplosione di macchia mediterranea e mirto, dove i fenicotteri per un lungo periodo dell’anno trovano rifugio. In realtà la salina è popolata anche da molti altri animali, come ad esempio aironi, falchi, gufi, ricci e volpi.
Torri di avvistamento alla Moonrise Kingdom e un percorso tra le ginestre completano la meraviglia di questo angolo di Puglia.

“Pink flamingos on Parade…”
Yes yes they were pink elephants and Tim Burton’s Dumbo will never be at the level of the cartoon. But this is not the point. The point is that near Oria there is a magical place where flamingos fly. It is the Salina dei Monaci.
We are precisely in the Torre Colimena oriented regional nature reserve.
The place takes its name from an episode of a historical nature. Around the year one thousand monks have noted that the seawater here was deposited in a natural depression during storms, so they created a sliding channel and saline had life.
A suggestive and delicate place. A strip of land separates the salt from the crystal clear sea and creates fine sand dunes. Depending on the season the colors change and the vegetation takes on new forms.
An explosion of Mediterranean scrub and myrtle, where flamingos find refuge for a long period of the year. In fact the saline is also populated by many other animals, such as herons, hawks, owls, hedgehogs and foxes.
Watch towers at the Moonrise Kingdom and a path among the brooms complete the wonder of this corner of Puglia.
