Paesini di pescatori, il Giardino dei Tarocchi e mare cristallino: Argentario.
Argentario = costa Toscana. Dimenticate per un attimo il Chianti, Firenze, Siena e la Torre di Pisa. Pensate a rilassarvi e a sdraiarvi all’ombra di una pineta. Soprattutto d’estate – che è un gran caldo – potete riposarvi. Se amate la Toscana e volete passarci le ferie, ecco la soluzione ideale.
Il Monte Argentario è un promontorio che nasce come isola, ma nel corso dei secoli grazie all’azione congiunta delle correnti marine e del fiume Albegna, si è unito alla terra ferma, formando la Laguna di Orbetello.
E’ proprio a Orbetello che abbiamo alloggiato, centrale per gli spostamenti e cittadina deliziosa. Una passeggiata tra le strade colorate del centro, il mulino visto al tramonto e i ristoranti di pesce sul mare sono gli highlight del posto.

Altra chicca: Rugantino. Cucina romana – quella vera – che quando assaggi la Gricia finisci direttamente a Trastevere.
Due cittadine da vedere: Porto Santo Stefano e Porto Ercole. La prima, Porto Santo Stefano, è il capoluogo dell’Argentario. Borgo marinaro e luogo di villeggiatura che si sviluppa lungo i suoi due porti. Il primo che incontrerete è quello commerciale dei traghetti per le isole e delle navi più grandi. Il porticciolo della Pilarella invece è il luogo del passeggio – qui i tavoli dei bar e dei ristorantini si affacciano sul mare.

Porto Ercole, anche lui, magnifico luogo di pescatori e gabbiani. E’ noto al mondo perchè nel luglio del 1610 qui morì, in circostanze misteriose, Michelangelo Merisi detto il Caravaggio. Cosiglio: salire le scalinate fino alla chiesetta e alla Rocca per una vista senza pari. Per gli amanti dei fondali e dell’acqua cristallina: vicino trovate la spiaggia della Feniglia, quindi, percorrere la strada panoramica e scendere a piedi lungo i sentieri delle Magnifiche Tre: Le Viste, la Spiaggia Lunga e l’Acqua Dolce.
PRANZO VELOCE: GRANO! Pizza (buonissima) e birrino vista mare. Dieci.
Una scoperta più che piacevole che tutti dovreste fare è l’antica Città di Cosa. Cosa era una colonia romana, fondata nel 273 a.C. dopo la sconfitta delle forze alleate delle città etrusche di Volsinii e di Vulci. Il nome deriva da quello più antico di Cusi o Cusia, un piccolo centro etrusco dove ora c’è l’attuale Orbetello. Il parco archeologico è tuttora work in progress. Ogni giorno gli studiosi americani che operano sul campo riportano alla luce importanti testimonianze del passato. Il museo è piccolino ma bello come pochi. Non vi colpirà per la sua architettura ma ciò che contiene è stupefacente.

Ancora qualcosa da visitare prima di dedicarsi a lettino e ombrellone: il Giardino dei Tarocchi. Parco esoterico realizzato dall’artista Niki de Saint Phalle e aperto nel 1998 a Capalbio. 22 arcani dei Tarocchi. Acciaio, cemento, specchi, vetri e ceramiche colorate.
Nella “spasmodica dilatazione delle forme e nella solarità ispirata ai maestri del cromatismo, da Matisse a Picasso, da Kandinskij a Klee” le sculture sono rivestite di un “abito di luce che trasforma le varie figure in una favolosa successione di parure neobarocche”. Rapiscono “l’attenzione e i sensi dello spettatore”, che, lontani dal percorrere un parco di divertimenti, compie una sorta di percorso iniziatico.
Ora si, è giunto il momento di mettersi in costume. Le calette sono dietro ogni angolo e ognuna è particolare a modo suo. Sono piccole spiagge e se si arriva tardi o nei mesi più affollati – beh, il gusto un pò scompare. In questo caso una spiaggia molto bella e grande è quella della Feniglia. Attrezzata, sabbia morbida e mare cristallino anche qui. A voi la scelta.
Per chi ama le terme: Saturnia. Potete decidere tra le suggestive Cascate del Mulino – ad ingresso libero – e lo stabilimento termale. Di Lunedì mattina alle 10 il numero di persone era già improponibile alle terme libere, così abbiamo optato per le Terme di Saturnia. Ottima scelta visto che poi è venuto a fare il diluvio e stare a bagno in quel preciso istante è stato fa-vo-lo-so. Andando infrasettimanalmente i prezzi sono più bassi e l’ingresso all’antica piscina termale ha un costo irrisorio. Meno persone, acqua più calda e piscina favolosa. DA FARE ANCHE IN ESTATE.

Fishing villages, the Tarot Garden and crystal clear sea: Argentario.
Argentario = Tuscan coast. Forget for a moment the Chianti, Florence, Siena and the Tower of Pisa. Think about relaxing and lying down in the shade of a pine forest. Especially in the summer – which is very hot – you can rest. If you love Tuscany and want to spend your holidays there, here is the ideal solution.
Monte Argentario is a promontory that was born as an island, but over the centuries thanks to the combined action of the sea currents and the Albegna river, it joined the land, forming the Orbetello Lagoon.
It is in Orbetello that we stayed, central for traveling and a lovely town. A walk through the colorful streets of the center, the mill seen at sunset and the seafood restaurants on the sea are the highlights of the place.

Two towns to see: Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. The first, Porto Santo Stefano, is the main town of the Argentario. Seafaring village and holiday resort that develops along its two ports. The first one you will encounter is the commercial ferry for the islands and larger ships. The small port of Pilarella is instead the place of walking – here the tables of the bars and restaurants overlook the sea.

Porto Ercole, magnificent place for fishermen and seagulls. It is known to the world because in July 1610 Michelangelo Merisi, known as il Caravaggio, died here under mysterious circumstances. Council: climb the stairs to the church and to the fortress for an unparalleled view. For lovers of the seabed and crystal clear water: near the Feniglia beach, then, walk along the panoramic road and walk down the paths of the Magnificent Three: Le Viste, the Spiaggia Lunga and the Acqua Dolce.

A more than pleasant discovery that you should all make is the ancient City of Cosa. What was a Roman colony, founded in 273 BC after the defeat of the allied forces of the Etruscan cities of Volsinii and Vulci. The name derives from the oldest of Cusi or Cusia, a small Etruscan town where the current Orbetello is now. The archaeological park is still a work in progress. Every day American scholars working in the field bring to light important testimonies of the past. The museum is small but beautiful as few. It will not affect you for its architecture but what it contains is amazing.

Still something to visit before going to bed and umbrella: Tarot Garden. Esoteric park created by the artist Niki de Saint Phalle and opened in 1998 in Capalbio. 22 arcana of the Tarot. Steel, concrete, mirrors, glasses and colored ceramics.
In the “spasmodic dilation of forms and in the radiance inspired by the masters of chromatism, from Matisse to Picasso, from Kandinskij to Klee” the sculptures are covered with a “light dress that transforms the various figures into a fabulous succession of neo-baroque parure”. They kidnap “the attention and senses of the spectator”, who, far from going through an amusement park, completes a sort of initiatory journey.
Now, yes, it is time to get into a costume. The coves are around every corner and each is unique in its own way. They are small beaches and if you arrive late or in the busiest months – well, the taste disappears a little. In this case a very beautiful and large beach is that of the Feniglia. Equipped, soft sand and crystal clear sea here too. To you the choice.
For those who love the spa: Saturnia. You can decide between the suggestive Mulino Waterfalls – with free admission – and the thermal establishment. By Monday morning at 10 am the number of people was already impossible at the free spas, so we opted for the Terme di Saturnia. Excellent choice since he then came to do the flood and to stay in the bathroom at that precise moment was fa-vo-lo. Going mid-week the prices are lower and the entrance to the ancient thermal pool has a negligible cost. Fewer people, warmer water and fabulous pool. TO DO ALSO IN THE SUMMER.
