Città di Castello è la sede della Collezione Burri, dislocata tra Palazzo Albizzini e gli Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco. Due sedi distinte che contengono un numero mastodontico di opere di uno dei più grandi artisti del secolo scorso. Una rinascimentale, l’altra il negativo opposto. Contrapposizioni e giochi che lo stesso Burri amava.
Alberto Burri. Nasce a Città di Castello, provincia di Perugia, il 12 marzo 1915. Maturità classica e laurea in medicina. Liberatosi dal ruolo di prigioniero americano nel post Dopoguerra, inizia a dedicarsi alla pittura. La prima mostra personale con opere ancora di carattere figurativo a Roma e poi la seconda, invece, con Bianchi e Catrami. Da qui in poi la storia – o leggenda – dell’artista è cosa nota.
A Palazzo Albizzini sono esposte ben 130 opere dell’arco cronologico che va dal 1948 al 1989. Catrami, Muffe, Gobbi, Sacchi, Legni, Ferri, Combustioni, Cretti e Cellotex. Mentre gli Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco, un recupero di archeologia industriale voluto dallo stesso artista, ospitano una raccolta di opere per cicli in hangar distinti.
Proprio un anno fa è stata inaugurata la nuova sezione museale nei sotterranei degli Ex Seccatoi con la raccolta più esaustiva del lavoro del Maestro. Mentre nel 2018 è nata BurriDocumenta: la nuova area multimediale che ripercorre la sua vita attraverso inviti, lettere, monografie, fotografie, video e film. Un modo nuovo per leggere e conoscere l’Uomo-Burri, non soltanto l’artista che ha rivoluzionato la storia dell’arte.

Città di Castello is the headquarters of the Burri Collection, located between Palazzo Albizzini and the Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco. Two distinct locations that contain a mammoth number of works by one of the greatest artists of the last century. One Renaissance, the other the opposite negative. Contrasts and games that Burri himself loved.
Alberto Burri. Born in Città di Castello, province of Perugia, March 12, 1915. Classical maturity and degree in medicine. Having freed himself from the role of American prisoner in post post-war, he began to devote himself to painting. The first personal exhibition with works still of a figurative character in Rome and then the second one, instead, with Bianchi and Catrami. From here on, the story – or legend – of the artist is well known.
At Palazzo Albizzini there are 130 works of the chronological arch which goes from 1948 to 1989. Catrames, Molds, Gobbi, Sacchi, Legni, Ferri, Combustioni, Cretti and Cellotex. While the Ex Seccatoi del Tabacco, a recovery of industrial archeology wanted by the artist himself, host a collection of works for cycles in distinct hangars.
Just a year ago, the new museum section was inaugurated in the basement of the Ex Seccatoi with the most exhaustive collection of the Master’s work. While in 2018 BurriDocumenta was born: the new multimedia area that traces its life through invitations, letters, monographs, photographs, videos and films. A new way to read and know the Man-Burri, not just the artist who has revolutionized the history of art.
