e l’Ambasciata Tenshō
Gli spazi della Galleria Continua a San Gimignano hanno un nuovo protagonista: Hiroshi Sugimoto. Le sue foto saranno qui fino al 13 gennaio 2019 per un racconto inedito sul celebre viaggio dell’Ambasciata Tenshō, la prima missione diplomatica giapponese in Europa.
Hiroshi Sugimoto è nato nel 1948 a Tokyo. E’ una figura poliedrica che si esprime attraverso la fotografia di oggetti sculturei, architetture e allestimenti espositivi sperimentali. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto nei musei di tutto il mondo da New York a Tokyo e dal 16 ottobre 2018 le Château de Versailles ospita una sua ampia personale.
A San Gimignano il fotografo parla di spazio, luce e ombra attraverso delle visioni silenziose di cinema storici italiani. Questo progetto, iniziato nel 1978 e lungo quaranta anni, ha un’evoluzione nel 2015 quando Sugimoto visita il Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza e s’imbatte per la prima volta nell’affresco dei “quattro ragazzi” dell’Ambasciata Tenshō. Da quel momento il fotografo decide di ripercorre quel viaggio e a noi presenta un corpus fotografico incredibile, dall’eleganza estremamente raffinata. Il viaggio risulta davvero affascinante anche per un altro dettaglio: il tempo di esposizione utilizzato per scattare la foto corrisponde al tempo di proiezione del film. L’intera durata del film è concentrata in un solo scatto.

Lasciarsi guidare dalla moda
Circa cento abiti, accessori, dipinti e sculture che non si differenziano più per “categorie dominanti” ma dialogano insieme a tu per tu. La presentazione non è precisamente cronologica, è un invito ad una loro diversa lettura per privilegiare le corrispondenze formali e le analogie culturali. Una corrispondenza di segni, come in un libro di Calvino.
Le immagini parlano da sole. Abiti come opere d’arte.
“Lasciarsi, ovvero abbandonarsi, affidarsi, darsi.
Guidare, ovvero condurre, accompagnare, educare, orientare, pilotare, manovrare.
Moda, dal latino modus: modo, foggia. Stile, look, tendenza, voga.”

Storie da trent’anni di Centro Pecci
L’idea è nata dalla nuova direttrice Cristiana Perrella che ha deciso di rileggere i trenta anni del Pecci attraverso un percorso inedito di aneddoti, ricordi e opere d’arte. “Una sorta di DNA del museo attraverso video, foto, documenti, tracce audio, poster e, naturalmente, le opere.” Nell’atrio c’è subito un lavoro di Martin Creed (UK, 1968) ‘Work No 2833: Don’t Worry, 2017’ che non appartiene alla storia del Centro ed è un monito a guardare sempre al futuro. Insieme alla mostra c’è un programma strabordante di eventi, rassegne teatrali, e performance.
Il museo immaginato. Storie da trent’anni di Centro Pecci è composta da tre elementi principali. Il primo è una timeline dello studio grafico Sara De Bondt che ci racconta la successione di mostre, concerti, rassegne, festival, laboratori, talk ospitati dal museo e ci da la possibilità di mapparne la storia attraverso materiali come video, foto, documenti, tracce audio, poster e opere.
Il secondo è l’analisi statistica e semantica dell’archivio e traccia una storia parallela, un racconto fatto di numeri: opere in collezione, mostre fatte, visitatori…
Il terzo prende vita dagli altri due, è un nuovo allestimento di una selezione di opere in gran parte provenienti dalla collezione del museo. I nomi? Schnabel, Cucchi, Merz, Morris, John Coplans, Craigie Horsfield, Robert Mapplethorpe, Nobuyoshi Araki, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Anish Kapoor e molti altri ancora.

The spaces of the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano have a new protagonist: Hiroshi Sugimoto. His photos will be here until January 13, 2019 for an unpublished story about the famous trip of the Embassy Tenshō, the first Japanese diplomatic mission in Europe.
Hiroshi Sugimoto was born in 1948 in Tokyo. It is a multi-faceted figure that expresses itself through the photograph of sculptural objects, architectures and experimental exhibition settings. His work has been exhibited in museums all over the world from New York to Tokyo and from 16 October 2018 the Château de Versailles hosts a large personal exhibition.
In San Gimignano the photographer talks about space, light and shadow through the silent visions of Italian historical cinema. This project, which began in 1978 and is forty years old, has evolved in 2015 when Sugimoto visits the Olympic Theater of Vicenza and comes across for the first time in the fresco of the “four boys” of the Embassy Tenshō. From that moment on, the photographer decides to retrace that journey and presents us with an incredible photographic corpus of extremely refined elegance. The journey is really fascinating even for another detail: the exposure time used to take the picture corresponds to the film’s projection time. The entire duration of the film is concentrated in a single shot.

About one hundred dresses, accessories, paintings and sculptures that no longer stand out for “dominant categories” but dialogue together with you. The presentation is not precisely chronological, it is an invitation to their different reading to favor formal correspondences and cultural analogies. A correspondence of signs, as in a book by Calvino.
The images speak for themselves. Dresses as works of art.

Storie da trent’anni di Centro Pecci
The idea was born from the new director Cristiana Perrella who decided to reread the thirty years of the Pecci through an unprecedented path of anecdotes, memories and works of art. “A sort of museum DNA through videos, photos, documents, audio tracks, posters and, of course, the works.” In the atrium there is immediately a work by Martin Creed (UK, 1968) ‘Work No 2833: Do not Worry, 2017’ which does not belong to the history of the Center and is a warning to always look to the future. Along with the exhibition there is an overflowing program of events, theatrical reviews, and performances.
Il museo immaginato. Storie da trent’anni di Centro Pecci is composed of three main elements. The first is a timeline of the graphic studio Sara De Bondt that tells the succession of exhibitions, concerts, reviews, festivals, workshops, talks hosted by the museum and gives us the opportunity to map the story through materials such as videos, photos, documents, traces audio, posters and works.
The second is the statistical and semantic analysis of the archive and traces a parallel story, a story made of numbers: works in the collection, exhibitions made, visitors …
The third one comes to life from the other two, is a new set-up of a selection of works largely from the museum’s collection. The names? Schnabel, Cucchi, Merz, Morris, John Coplans, Craigie Horsfield, Robert Mapplethorpe, Nobuyoshi Araki, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Anish Kapoor and many others.
