Il prossimo anno questa sarà la Capitale europea della cultura, quale scusa migliore per un weekend lontano da casa? Un rapido elenco di come visitarla, cosa vedere, piatti tipici da assaggiare e dove dormire.
COME VISITARE MATERA
Due giorni, si, Matera merita due giorni per apprezzarla a pieno. Niente toccata e fuga. Godetevi questa perla con il giusto tempo.
Girare per la città senza meta, perdersi tra le vie e scoprire scorci nascosti: tutto molto romantico, però… La scelta migliore è quella di prendere una guida ed integrare le due cose per non rischiate di perdere alcuni dei segreti che la città custodisce.
Sono molte le agenzie che offrono un tour della durata di circa tre/quattro ore. Non ci sono grosse differenze tra l’una o l’altra, ne di tempistiche ne di prezzi. Oltre alla visita della città consiglio anche l’escursione nel Parco della Murgia per vedere le chiese rupestri. Si svolge al tramonto e la vista sulla città è senza pari. (Visita della città 15 euro + visita al Parco della Murgia 20 euro – comprendono già il biglietto d’ingresso alle chiese rupestri e alla Casa Grotta, oltre che il transfert in autobus al Parco)
COSA VEDERE
Grazie alla guida avrete una bella visione di massima della città. Sarete già stati nella Casa Grotta, l’abitazione tipica di Matera, sarete già entrati in alcune Chiese Rupestri e avrete già fatto visita alla vera bottega di un artigiano materano.
E ora? L’ordine categorico è quello di perdersi tra le vie del Sasso Caveoso e del Sasso Barisano. Piccoli angoli senza tempo cattureranno la vostra attenzione e vi faranno innamorare di questo luogo.
Lungo la vostra strada dovete visitare il Palombaro lungo, la grande cisterna scavata sotto la centralissima Piazza Vittorio e utilizzata fino ai primi decenni del secolo scorso per la raccolta di acqua potabile. (Il biglietto della visita costa 3 euro e sarete accompagnati da una guida).
Non perdete Palazzo Lanfranchi, con la sua goccia divenuta simbolo della città, che ospita il museo di Arte Medievale e la Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista in via San Biagio. Altri due luoghi di culto a cui fare visita sono la Chiesa di Santa Maria de Idris, al centro del Sasso Caveoso, deliziosa per la sua intimità ma al tempo stesso regale per gli affreschi bizantini e la Chiesa del Purgatorio con i suoi suggestivi teschi. Adorabile è la Piazzetta di San Pietro Caveoso.
COSA ASSAGGIARE E DOVE
Piatti tipici da non perdere sono le Strascinate, pasta fresca con i peperoni cruschi, e la Cialledda, una panzanella locale a base di pane raffermo, pomodori, cipolla e olive.

Di solito non consiglio mai dove alloggiare, ma questa volta ci siamo sentiti particolarmente a casa. Struttura nuova, curata nel dettaglio e dal design moderno, posizione supercomoda e ospitalità da 10 e lode. L’AlbaRosa, Via Lucana 319/b. E’ un B&B con pochissime camere, se è disponile scegliete quella con la terrazza.

HOW TO VISIT MATERA
Two days, yes, Matera deserves two days to fully appreciate it. Nothing touched and escape. Enjoy this pearl with the right time.
Go around the city aimlessly, get lost in the streets and discover hidden views: all very romantic, but … The best choice is to take a guide and integrate the two things. Otherwise you risk losing some of the secrets that the city holds.
There are many agencies that offer a tour lasting about three to four hours. There are no major differences between one or the other, nor timing or price. In addition to visiting the city I also recommend the excursion in the Murgia Park to see the rock churches. It takes place at sunset and the city view is unparalleled. (City tour 15 euros + visit to the Murgia Park 20 euros – already include the entrance ticket to the cave churches and the Cave House, as well as the bus transfer to the Park)
WHAT SEE
Thanks to the guide you will have a good overview of the city. You have already been in the Casa Grotta, the typical house of Matera, you will have already entered some Chiese Rupestri and you have already visited the true workshop of a Matera artisan.
And now? The categorical order is to indulge in the streets of Sasso Caveoso and Sasso Barisano. Small timeless corners will capture your attention and make you fall in love with this place.
Along your way you can not miss the Palombaro Lungo, the large cistern dug under the central Piazza Vittorio and used until the first decades of the last century to collect drinking water. (The tour ticket costs 3 euros and you will be accompanied by a guide).
Do not miss Palazzo Lanfranchi, with its drop that has become a symbol of the city, which houses the Museum of Medieval Art and the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Via San Biagio. Two other places of worship impossible to miss are the Church of Santa Maria de Idris, in the center of Sasso Caveoso, delightful for its intimacy but at the same time regal for the Byzantine frescoes and the Church of Purgatory with its suggestive skulls. Adorable is the Piazzetta di San Pietro Caveoso.

I usually never recommend where to stay, but this time we felt particularly at home. New structure, with attention to detail and modern design, super-comfortable position and 10-star hospitality.
